Popular radio personality and social entrepreneur, Clarence Ford is a man of many words that he puts into action. Having begun his radio career 26 years ago in Namibia for that country’s national station, he has since become a much-loved and trusted voice on South African airwaves, first at Highveld between 2001 and 2002, Good Hope FM until 2007 and thereafter P4 Radio which is today HeartFM.

 

Clarence Ford _LeisureFin founderThrough radio, Clarence came into contact with his other passion – community upliftment – and has since played an integral role in many community interventions such as enabling 15 Paternoster youth the chance to earn certificates from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. He has raised over R1 million for deserving schools and charities and has also had the rare opportunity of interviewing a South African icon, Nelson Mandela, three times, as well as broadcasting “live” from Melbourne Australia for the Aids Impact Conference.

 

While building his radio brand he also simultaneously branched out into business and founded initiatives in the nature, music and travel industries. Among these are the North Sea Jazz Festival – Cape Town, The Love Jazz Cruise, Jazz on the Rocks in Tietie’s Bay, Jazz on the Rocks Plettenberg Bay, The One World – Festival of Healing in the Arboretum in Paarl and a Tri-Nations South East Asia Golf Challenge. This was achieved in partnership with Camissa Solutions, an events, travel and tourism agency. All events in the Camissa stable have profoundly impacted the host communities with youth and the poorest of the poor becoming beneficiaries of the endeavors. Host communities enjoy significant economic impact and skills exchange as a result. Similar initiatives have also been extended to Tietie’s Bay, Plettenberg Bay, Paarl and Clanwilliam with more communities in Ford’s sights for the future.

 

His latest venture is LeisureFin, an accredited travel financier and booking agent. Through a recent partnership with Nedbank, it offers eligible South Africans access to competitively-priced finance to partially or in full fund travel locally or abroad. Launched in an effort to assist middle-class South Africans discover the world around them, visit family or friends overseas or fulfil their bucket list, it offers clients an end-to-end solution of trusted travel agent and financier in one.
