Kaya FM 95.9 and Bassline Live once again deliver the finest in South African performances in the now bi-monthly instalment of ‘Live at the Lyric’ at Gold Reef City – this time with the iconic Afro-Soul and Gospel singer, Tsepo Tshola, aka The Village Pope.

This 40-year music industry veteran has experienced one of the more illustrious careers of his generation, alongside his peers and friends which include Julian Bahula, Jabu Khanyile, Nana Coyote and of course, most notably, his writing and touring partner, the great, recently departed Hugh Masekela.

Destined to set the “House on Fire” with his 13-piece ensemble on the 7th April, Tsepo will be performing material from his greatest hits, as well as newer material and a special tribute to the seminal Afro-beat group Sankomoto.  His two musician sons Kamo and Katlego will also be joining him on stage in this show, dubbed a ‘celebration of life and music’.

Having been a leader in bands such as The Lesotho Blue Diamonds, The Anti-Antics and Uhuru, he eventually captured the hearts of the nation with Sankomota with his profound lyrical pronouncement on social and political issues of the time.

Tsepo had, in later years, become a far more spiritual man – a path he is proud to have taken and in the early 2000’s he turned his focus inwards and started walking a more spiritual path in his song-writing.

Before long was one of the highly regarded Afro-Gospel artists, producing rousing, lyrically poignant, often personally-driven songs – a side to himself that he has never shown in his music before, having always reserved his lyrics for more socio-political issues.

And now, in 2018, a resident of his homeland Lesotho, he is happy to continue to perform for his multi-generational fan-bases around the country.  Having had one of largest and boldest careers of the musical stalwarts of the land, he is still waving the flag high for his peers and the political and personal struggles they have overcome together through music.

Once again, stylish urban outfitters Brentwood Clothing, new affiliates to the Kaya FM & Bassline Live series, will be on board, standing behind the rich arts and culture scene in SA through music.

Make sure you catch this iconic figure live in concert on the 7th April at the Lyric Theatre.  Book now at Computicket to avoid disappointment!

Tickets: R250, R300, R400 & R500.
