Bassline Live and Kaya FM 95.9, the home of the Afropolitan, are proud to welcome back International steelpan drumming sensation Andy Narell, who will be returning to South Africa to perform at the Lyric, Gold Reef City on the 7th July.

Known as one of the most schooled musicians of our time, Narell has been working in the world of music since 1962, when he formed his first steelpan drum band with his brothers and friends in Queens, New York.  As the invitations to perform grew more lucrative, so expanded Narell’s experience and by 1973 he had graduated from the University Of California, Berkeley where he focused on piano and drums.

Narell instantly started his own record label and in 1979 he released his first solo album, Hidden Treasures.  He went onto release a further 6 albums under his own label and the famous jazz label Windham Hill, gaining himself the moniker ‘The Hammer’, along the way.

With a strong interest in Caribbean music, Latin jazz and rhythm and blues, he joined the Caribbean Jazz Project in 1995.  The group released 3 albums together.  In the early 2000’s Narell also joined an act called Sakesho and has released a further two albums with that band.

As a solo artist he has graced stages across the globe, as well as performing with countless other well-known names in the Jazz, Latin American, Caribbean and world music genres.

Andy Narell performs and teaches regularly in South Africa, playing to long time and new audiences including to his fan club based in Soweto.  He also has his own South African band, who will be joining him at the Lyric on the 7th July.  They consist of the established names Louie Mhlanga, Rob Watson, Denis Lalouette and Thandi Ntuli – all established musicians in their own rights.

Narell has also played the Joy Of Jazz Festival where over 80 000 music lovers gathered to watch him perform.

Once again, stylish urban outfitters Brentwood Clothing, affiliates to the Kaya FM & Bassline Live series, will be on board, standing behind the rich arts and culture scene in SA through music.

We are honoured to have the icon Andy Narell join our family of superstars in the Kaya FM & Bassline Live series.  A music lovers dream come true, catch him live in concert on the 7th July at the Lyric in Gold Reef.

Tickets are open now at Computicket from R250.

Book now to avoid disappointment.
