25th Japanese Film Festival Set for November

Posted by radio On October - 23 - 2018

The Embassy of Japan in South Africa, along with the Japan Foundation, in the spirit of sharing Japanese culture with their South African counterpart, will be hosting a free film festival due to take place November in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

“Art is often considered the best medium when sharing cultural viewpoints between any two parties, because it educates, enhances empathy and strengthens cohesion amongst the groups involved. This is what the 25th Japanese Film Festival will do for both Japan and South Africa,” explains Taro Sawada, PR Officer at the Japanese Embassy.

The three-day Film Festival will kick off in Cape Town at the V&A Nouveau on Friday, 2 November, and will be on circuit until Sunday, 4 November. With the second leg of the festival taking place in Johannesburg at the Rosebank Nouveau on Friday, 9 November right through to Sunday, 11 November.

“Movie tickets will be available at the box office one hour before the start of each show, on a first come, first served basis. During the Festival, various genres will be showcased, including comedy, horror, animation and drama, so there is something for the whole family to indulge in. We hope movie lovers come out in their numbers to witness the talents and experience the cultural feel of Japanese film,” says Sawada.

The movies being screened at year’s festival are:

  • “Genius Party Beyond” (Animation)

  • “The Complex” (Horror)
  • “Survival Family” (Comedy)
  • “It’s a Beautiful Life – IRODORI” (Drama)

The Japanese Embassy will also be hosting a lecture and screening at the University of Pretoria, on Friday, 16 November and Saturday, 17 November, where the discussion will be around pop culture.
