Say hello to Mzansi Magic’s all-new, all-local lifestyle reality show: Mzansi Footballers. This show follows in the footsteps of the popular globe-trotting Goal Diggerz that gave viewers a peek into the lives of African football stars around the world.

Just in time to combat any blues that soccer lovers might be feeling as the club culling continues, this show will invite viewers to kick back and chill with their favourite stars during their downtime.

 It’s More Complicated Than Ever!

Posted by radio On September - 25 - 2016 ADD COMMENTS

LOVE, lies and betrayal will be the order of the day when Mzansi Magic’s popular relationship drama series, It’s Complicated, returns for a second season on Sunday, 9 October 2016 at 20:00.

34_its_complicated_s2_full_cast_004_preThe explosive debut season entrenched itself in the TV-watching psyche so much that Mzansi held its collective breath with each episode to see what would unfold between Ipeleng and her long time on-off boyfriend Thatho, as well as the motley crew of friends and family in the form of Mandisa, Vumani, Thabang, Matli and Ntandokazi.

Last season ended with Thato marrying Ntandokazi against dizzying odds, and a heartbroken Ipeleng throwing caution to the wind and straying from her good girl character. And the best part? The pregnancy bomb!

M-Net’s Head of Drama, Reneilwe Sema, says there will be plenty more where that came from, and viewers should ready themselves for crazy cliff-hangers one after the other.

“If you thought last season was terse, you’re in for an even more intense emotional rollercoaster in Season 2,” says Sema.

The new season picks up just over four months after all the drama and truth bombs. This time, not only is Ipeleng’s dogged determination to get the perfect life in the form of a marriage and children clouding her judgment, it also leads her to make a tragic error that costs her the very thing that she has always wanted.

Meanwhile, Thato and Ntandokazi’s already fragile relationship isn’t made any less fraught by a wedding ring. Could a couple that was on the brink of a break-up so close to their wedding survive the challenges that they – and their extended family – keep heaping on them? Did they get married too soon? Did they do it for the right reasons? And will they see things through for better or for worse?

“This season, the story will also delve into Mandisa’s past. As Ipeleng’s rock, she’s hardly had the time to deal with her own skeletons, choosing instead to bury them deep. But, a shocking and horrifying secret will come out, cracking open Mandisa’s seemingly solid foundation and threatening to blow her life into a million pieces.” says Sema.

The original core cast played by Fikile Mthwalo-Kani (Ipeleng), Siyabonga Radebe (Thato), Atandwa Kani (Vumani), Motlatsi Mafatshe (Thabang), Thishiwe Ziqubu (Ntandokazi) and Samela Tyelbooi (Mandisa) is joined by new members Lungile Radu (Phila), Masasa Mbangeni (Katlego), Austin Shandu (Nqobizitha) and Hlubi Mboya (Dr. Patience Moloi) who are sure to spice things up even more.

If you don’t want to be left behind when everyone talks about Mzansi’s hottest drama, make sure you tune into Mzansi Magic DStv channel 161, on 9 October at 20:00, to catch the return of It’s Complicated.

The Voice SA Returns for a Second Season

Posted by radio On September - 20 - 2016 ADD COMMENTS

M-Net’s prestigious singing competition returns for a second season. The Voice SA is looking for high-calibre vocal talent!

the_voice_sa_medNothing else matters. It’s all about The Voice! If you have perfect pitch, an enviable range, or the vocal tone or timbre that gives audiences goosebumps, you’re the ideal candidate to enter The Voice SA.

M-Net has confirmed that there will be a second season of the massively popular singing competition The Voice SA – and the first auditions are just around the corner!

This time, Port Elizabeth is included in the countrywide search for South Africa’s new singing sensation, with The Voice SA’s open auditions taking place on Wednesday, 12 October at The Beach Hotel on Marine Drive. Thereafter, it’s Cape Town’s turn, at Belmont Square in Rondebosch, on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October, while Durban’s singers can have their voices heard on Wednesday, 19 October, at the Growth Point Kings Park Stadium. The final stop will be in the City of Gold on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 October at Sasani Studios in Balfour Park.

During these initial audition sessions, which are not filmed for television, talent has the opportunity to show an anonymous panel of music experts that they have the vocal prowess to perform on screen at the show’s famous ‘Blind Auditions’. That’s when The Voice SA coaches, four respected and well-known South African musos, listen to the singers with their iconic red chairs turned away from the stage, basing their decisions purely on what they hear. The honour of singing for the coaches will only befall the best of the best singers from the countrywide auditions.

“In The Voice SA it’s indeed all about quality,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. “Right from the start, there’s no doubt that every single person on this proudly South African show can sing. The question is whether or not the coaches want them in their team and believe that they can take them all the way to the top. The phenomenal talent from The Voice SA Season 1 has set the bar incredibly high, and we are looking forward to opening doors for more fantastic talent who deserve to become household names.”

The Voice SA Season 1 winner Richard Stirton has already topped the iTunes charts three times – with the songs he performed at the semi-finals and finals, as well as the single he released with Universal Music as part of his prize package. He was also voted number one when TALPA, the company that produces the show around the globe, pitted the most recent winners from 23 countries against each other in an online poll. Both Richard Stirton and runner-up Gavin Edwards’ full albums will be released in October this year.

For Season 2, The Voice SA is again looking for exceptional talent with a unique sound and solo singers as well as duos from any musical background are encouraged to enter. Even though you have to be 18 years old on the day of your audition, there is no upper age-limit. You need to be a South African citizen or permanent resident, however, and will have to sign a document stating that you don’t have an existing contract with any recording company.

While there will be open auditions in SA’s biggest cities, singers who want to be part of the show will also be able to submit a song online for a possible fast track to the selection committee. Details about these submissions are available on M-Net recommends that anyone entering must bear in mind that there might be long queues at the audition venues. The earlier you come, the better, but take the weather into account too. Bring essentials such as your ID, an umbrella, sunscreen and enough hydration to ensure that you stay cool and fresh for your audition.

The Voice SA Season 2 will be broadcast on M-Net Channel 101 from January 2017 and the names of the coaches will be made public at a later stage.

New teen drama Is’thunzi on Mzansi Magic

Posted by radio On September - 17 - 2016 ADD COMMENTS

In the age of wireless headphones, “dabbin” and memes, Mzansi Magic presents its first teen drama, Is’thunzi, which premieres on the 10th of October at 20:00.

27_mzansi_magic_019_preSet in the fast-paced world of South Africa’s born-frees, Is’thunzi will unpack the complexities that teenagers are faced with from all walks of life and the choices they are forced to make on their journey to adulthood.

Leading a group of girls who refer to themselves as “Ninjas”,  the drama unfolds when we meet the go-getter and sassy Winnie (Saints and Sinner’s Thuso Mbedu) who dreams of marrying a rich and famous rugby player. However, her dreams are dashed when she’s exiled to go live with her strict aunt in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal.

It is in Bergville that we meet the rest of the Ninjas: the young wife Londi (Zikhona Bali) who defies her in-laws by returning to school to get her matric; the misunderstood creative spirit Thishiwe (Makgotso M) who terrifies the community because of the darkness that befell her family, and completing the squad is Noxolo (Yolanda Kgaka), a shy and smart girl with a shameful secret.

Together, the girls help Winnie to snag her prince while also searching for their own happily-ever-after.

“We have told so many stories over the years, but had not fully explored the lives of Mzansi’s youth – Is’thunzi will do just that. This drama will dissect what it means to be young and full of potential but having to overcome financial, social, and cultural barriers in order to make something of yourself ,” said M-Net’s Head of Drama, Reneilwe Sema.

Joining this vibrant ensemble for thrilling 13 episodes are veteran actress Nandi Nyembe, Sdumo Mtshali, Bohang Moeko, Mbali Maphumulo, Pallance Dladla and new comer Thulane Shange.

Follow Winnie, Londi, Noxolo and Thishiwe as they pursue their dreams and form a bond that will not only push them over the edge, but also grow them in ways they never could have imagined.

Can Cinderella find her prince and create her own happiness without the help of her fairy godmother? Do not miss all the action when Is’thunzi premieres on Mzansi Magic (DSTV Channel 161) on the 10th of October at 20:00.

Small business is about to make a big noise with the launch of the SME Zone on DStv this weekend. The dedicated weekend block, on Channel 412, is styled as a “self-help” manual for small business and those looking to start their own enterprises. The SME Zone is a weekend extension of Times Media’s finance and news channel, Business Day TV. It follows the success of programmes like The Big Small Business Show, now in its fourth year.

bdlogo_263x252The SME Zone will feature step-by-step guides on how to identify, start and grow a successful business; educational modules such as The Small Business MBA; real-lifementoring sessions with experts; and tipsand inspiration from some of SA’s top entrepreneurs.

“Nine out of 10 small businesses fail within the first 3 years,” says Semeyi Zake, creator and executive producer of the SME Zone. “That’s a terrible waste of hope, energy and resources. We aim to give entrepreneurs a fighting chance, via clear templates and business models that will greatly increase their chances of success.

”Some of the shows in the SME Zone line-up include: Jumpstart (self-help jobs you can start with R500 or less); Biz Guide 101 (a blueprint for running 25 popular businesses); Pimp my Bizz (revamping a faltering enterprise); Pitch & Polish (a nationwide search for the best ideas); and SME Funding.

“We realized there’s a hunger for business knowledge beyond the markets and corporate deals. As a channel, we are passionate about small business, realizing that this is where we can make an impact in addressing the country’s skills gap and play our role in creating employment and growing this economy,” Zake adds.

Vernon Matzopoulos, Head of Broadcast at Times Media, said: “We’re looking to help grow the next generation of business, and TV is an incredibly powerful medium of instruction to drive that. Thanks to DStv’s generosity in making the airtime available, we can now reach into 5.5 million homes –and hopefully inspire a small business revolution.”

This was a major technological breakthrough at the time giving viewers access to a brand new world of entertainment.

m-net-30th-birthday-logo_lrgWhile the industry has continued to evolve at lightning speed, M-Net has always been at the forefront of the latest developments.

In curating and creating the very best content and channels for DStv customers, M-Net also boasts an impressive and long list of revolutionary moves and “firsts”– from being the first to screen movies without ad breaks to introducing South Africa’s very first soap, bringing local versions of blockbuster reality shows like Big Brother and Idols to our shores, producing ten language-specific TV channels, going HD and adding events-driven pop-up channels as well as services like “Express from the US”.

Now, in the trend-setting and magical fashion that it has become renowned for, M-Net will be celebrating its 30th birthday in a unique way– with a fun-filled comedy pop-up channel.

“M-Net would not have been where it is today without the loyal support of our viewers,” says M-Net’s CEO Yolisa Phahle. “M-Net Movies BlockParty will have something for everyone and provide shows for the whole family to enjoy together.  Comedy is always popular and we would like our viewers to have some fun, so we look forward to celebrating our big birthday with as many people as possible.”

To add to the M-Net 30th birthday celebrations, viewers can also look forward to plenty of fire-cracking new programming on M-Net’s various channels in October.
