World stars to take over KZN at the MAMAs

KwaZulu-Natal Province is rolling out the red carpet for an influx of stars as MTV Base (DStv channel 322) announces the final performers for MAMA 2015.

MAMA 2015, sponsored by KwaZulu-Natal in association with Absolut Vodka and in partnership with The City of Durban, takes place on Saturday 18 July at the Durban International Convention Centre, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. For the first time ever, the live telecast will air simultaneously on MTV Base (DStv channel 322), MTV (DStv channel 130) and BET (DStv channel 129).

Nigerian superstars and MAMA “Evolution” Award nominees P-Square will be making a rare appearance in South Africa to perform at the show, while Flavour makes a welcome return to the region after his blistering live performance at the MTV Africa All Stars gig back in 2013. Seyi Shay, hotly tipped for Best Female, is making her first appearance in Durban after making a huge impact at the MAMA nominations event in Joburg in May and the recent Road to MAMA club event in Lagos, Nigeria.

 

 

P-Square, Flavour and Seyi Shay join a stellar performer line-up that includes 2Face, AKA, Big Nuz, Black Motion, Bucie, Cassper Nyovest, Da LES, Davido, Diamond Platnumz, DJ Fisherman, DJ Tira, Jhené Aiko, NaakMusiQ, NE-YO, Toofan, Wizkid, Yemi Alade and Young Thug. “Blackish” star Anthony Anderson is confirmed as host.
Among the many nominees from around the continent expected to attend the show are Anselmo Ralph, DJ Arafat, Chameleone, Dreamteam, HHP, Riky Rick, Samini, OC Ukeje, Bebe Cool, Mpumi, Jovi, Uhuru and Vanessa Mdee.

 

 

Other celebrities expected to sashay down the red carpet include comedian Trevor Gumbi, Nigerian OAP Toolz, MTV Shuga star and Mr Nigeria Emmanuel Ikbese, BET “Top Actor” winner Altovise Lawrence, Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie, “Personality of the Year” nominee Bonang Matheba, “Evolution” Award nominee HHP, Boity, Khuli Chana, Joselyn Dumas, Jessica Nkosi, actress Zikhona Sodlaka, and MTV Base VJs Sizwe, Nomuzi, Ehiz and Sandile.

 

 

Also involved in the build-up to the awards are Junior B and Touch of Soul, who will both be performing at the VIP cocktail on site at the ICC on awards night, while Uhuru, K.O., DJ Feel, Benny Maverick, Jnr De Rocka and King Sfiso will bring it at the official pre-party at Under the Moon in Inanda on Friday night.

 

 

The MTV Africa Music Awards KwaZulu-Natal 2015 will broadcast live across Africa on MTV Base (DStv channel 322), MTV (DStv channel 130) and BET (DStv channel 129) on Saturday 18 July at 21:00 CAT. The show will also be transmitted worldwide on partner stations and content platforms including BET International from 18 July. In addition, a special MAMA-themed edition of MTV’s acclaimed World Stage franchise will air globally on MTV channels around the world on 27 August 2015.

MAMA 2015 is shaping up for an awesome night of live music as DJ Tira, DJ Fisherman, Big Nuz, Da Les & Naakmusiq join the glittering array of stars heading to the MTV Africa Music Awards KwaZulu-Natal 2015 (MAMA).

Former MAMA winners Big Nuz are in  the running for this year’s  Best Live act (first won by the group in Lagos in 2010), while Da LES is considered a serious contender for Best Collaboration, for “All Eyes On Me”, his collab with AKA, Burna Boy and JR.  Meanwhile, “Song of the Year” nominees DJ Fisherman, NaakMusiQ and DJ Tira are set to reunite in Durban to perform a blistering rendition of their hit track “Call Out”.

The artists join previously announced performers 2FACE, AKA, Black Motion, Bucie, Cassper Nyovest, Davido, Diamond Platnumz, Jhené Aiko, NE-YO, Toofan, Wizkid, Yemi Alade and Young Thug at the fifth edition of the MAMA.

Anthony Anderson to host 2015 MAMAs

Actor, producer, comedic genius and all-round funnyman Anthony Anderson is to host the fifth edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards KwaZulu-Natal 2015 (MAMA), MTV Base’s flagship awards ceremony.

Fresh from his recent stint as co-host of the BET Awards 2015 in LA,  Anthony Anderson is star and Executive Producer of ABC’s new comedy Black-ish alongside actress Tracee Ellis Ross, while also hosting Food Network’s Carnival Cravings with Anthony Anderson. He is known for leading roles on NBC’s Emmy Award-winning drama Law & Order where he played Detective Kevin Bernard, as well as the shows K-Ville and The Shield. Anderson also brought his talent and humour to the small screen in his semi-biographical sitcom All About the Andersons.

 

Anderson has appeared in over 20 movies, while his performance on Law & Order earned him his second consecutive NAACP Image Award nomination for “Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series” for the 2008 season. He also displayed his impressive talent in the DreamWorks’ blockbuster Transformers directed by Michael Bay; as well as in Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning feature The Departed, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson. Anderson first gained attention as one of Jim Carrey’s sons in Me, Myself, and Irene, and has subsequently appeared in such films as Scary Movie 3, Barbershop, Kangaroo Jack, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, Two Can Play That Game, and Malibu’s Most Wanted.  A slick and experienced awards show host, in 2013, Anderson hosted the Soul Train Awards.

 

Anderson follows in the footsteps of previous MAMA hosts Marlon Wayans (2014), Eve (2010), Wyclef Jean (2009) and Trevor Nelson (2008).

We  have joined forces to help African youth break into the creative industries with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity working on the MTV Africa Music Awards KwaZulu-Natal (MAMA) 2015.

MTV Base is looking for four creative prodigies to work at the MAMA including:

– A dancer with the moves and charisma to light up the stage
– A photographer with a knack for capturing the perfect moment
– A social media journalist who knows just what MTV Base’s audience wants
– A videographer with the skills to work in the high pressured, live environment

Each winner will get the chance to attend the MAMA 2015 in Durban, be part of the MTV Base team, and work alongside an experienced mentor in the relevant discipline.  MTV Base will cover all travel and accommodation costs – so make sure you’re available across the weekend of the 18 July!
